Wellingtonians will have to learn their ones, twos and fives all over again as the city council prepares for more plastic going to the tip.

Wellington City Council has announced it will only be recycling some types of plastics as much of what we put in our recycling bags needs to be sent to volatile markets overseas for recycling.

The new rules come into effect on July 20 - amid Plastic Free July - and will mean only plastics numbered one, two, or five - except meat trays - will be accepted in recycling.

Upcycling is the term used for taking a preloved item and transforming it - whether it's for a new purpose altogether, or just to give it an ‘extreme makeover'. Consider using the school holidays to get Upcycling with the smaller members of your household - or use the next rainy day to drag out the paint and your creativity!

So to all our crews working on the frontline this winter, every day, in all kinds of weather, thanks for your hard work to keep our three waters flowing, our drinking water, stormwater and wastewater (including hot showers!). Your work is appreciated.

Taste of Cultures is a celebration of Wellington's cultural diversity through food, music, dance, speakers and voices from our former refugee communities.

We are so grateful that the team at Te Papa have opened up the Te Marae event space for us, guests will enjoy a private viewing of their exhibition 'Stories from refugees in New Zealand' before dinner.
Tickets are $120 per person, or $900 for a table of 9 guests.

We are aware that a lot of New Zealanders have been significantly affected financially by COVID-19, and though we need to continue to fundraise for our work in helping vulnerable people, we would like to offer anyone who has been affected COVID-19 an opportunity to attend this incredible event.
