Look our for others

The Team from Wellington District Police

We know some of you are facing threatening and potentially harmful times at home right now. Police will be there for you if you call us.

If you are in immediate danger and can’t call 111, leave your house and get out of harm’s way. Get to a safe distance and then ask a neighbour over a fence, or a passer-by, to call 111 for you. Your safety comes first.

It’s everybody’s responsibility to speak out and keep each other safe right now. If you think something is not ok with a friend, neighbour, or colleague, it’s okay to call Police on their behalf. The person you’re worried about may not be able to speak up for themselves. You could be saving a life.

⚠️UPDATE: VICTORIA STREET PIPE BURST⚠️

The Team from Wellington Water

Work is under way to repair a wastewater pipe in Victoria Street in the Wellington CBD, after it burst last night.

Traffic is down to a single lane for a small part of Victoria St and motorists are being asked to avoid the area if they can, or to expect minor delays.

The burst caused a minor overflow. Signs warning of the risk have been placed on the waterfront and a visual inspection showed no sign of any discharge. Water quality testing will be undertaken from today.

The pipe will be excavated today to assess the extent of the burst, then repairs carried out. All going well work may be completed today, but it could take longer to complete reinstatement of the area.

We’ll provide a further update on repair progress around midday.

Can you see? The car? Cyclist? Or Pedestrian?

The team from Upper Hutt City Council

Sunstrike while travelling north on Miro Street on the morning of the 23 May 2019.

Sunstrike is more likely to occur in winter, especially from May to August, because the sun is lower in the sky.

Be prepared for possible sunstrike:

»» Keep your windscreen clean, inside and out.
»» Wear sunglasses if the sun is in your eyes.
»» Use your car’s sun visors.
»» If you experience sunstrike, it may be best to pull over and wait for a few minutes until visibility improves.
