Disposing of rubber gloves and used tissues on the riverside walkway.

Iola from Awapuni

It is disappoint to see all the unhygienic tissues and used rubber gloves on the riverside walkway. Normally I would pick up litter in my walks to the park and riverside, but with Covid 19 in the community and 2 people with infections who have not been overseas, naturally I am not going to put my health a risk. Could people please be careful with what could be a serious infection source to the public? Dispose of your waste products into the rubbish bins, or carry a paper bag with you to take home to put into the landfill rubbish. We will need to also protect the Council workers who are emptying these bins.

My Dad lives in Hamilton and I live in Palmy he has Alzheimers but manages to still live at home with carers help. For the last 14 months I have done his groceries on line but of course now with this happening I am having problems. He has run out of food and although I have rung the supermarket 3 times now emailed a list, given them my credit card etc, they still haven't delivered his food. Does anyone know who else I could contact, I can't seem to find anything on the covid-19 website.

Some of our neighbours have gone above and beyond with their take on the teddy bear hunt sweeping the nation.

The McKinnon and Walter families have created a giant bear in their paddock, alongside a big dog - I don't think its name is Clifford - and a few side pieces their children jump on to bring joy to passing truckies.

Do you have any teddy bear creations that we haven't seen? Post them here or send them through to maxine.jacobs@stuff.co.nz, we'd love to see them :)

*Sorry about the dad pun, I couldn't help myself

This is a precautionary post!!!
Yesterday one of my elderly Covid 19 phoning circle got a telephone call from supposedly “Work and Social Development” asking him as he was a pensioner did he live alone and did he need any help/assistance for shopping etc. He was a bit confused and told the man on the phone what arrangements he had in place.
He rang me and said that he thought it was nice that a government department was concerned about his welfare like that. I didn’t say anything to him but I immediately telephoned and waited approximately thirty minutes on hold on the Police 105 number. They took a note of my concern and then connected me onto another area to report and discuss the matter.
To the best of their knowledge they were not aware of Social Development or WINZ or any other Government Department making
such calls to elderly folks. However it would be noted and looked into.
Has anyone else had an experience similar?
Take care everyone, keep safe and PLEASE follow the rules
Lesley and family
