NEWSLETTER # 501

Dear Readers

There are some goodies in today's attachment – THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW by A J Finn to start with. I was quite delighted to find at the end of that one to realise that my powers of observation are pretty good for an olde biddy. I figured out the whys and wherefores early in the piece, and although I doubted myself from time to time, was proved correct in the end.

Am presently reading a biography: THE GOOD DAUGHTER by Jasmin Darznik. My word – some women have backbones of steel. To be sure this particular woman had a father who believed in educated women even though he felt that his daughter's marriage at the tender age of 13 was nobody's business but his, and especially not the Shah of Iran's! Nevertheless – he stepped up when she needed him and she ended up with a midwifery degree, marrying a foreigner, and living in the States. And her daughter only learns of her mother's travails after her father dies. Excellent read. Am not quite finished. I can finish it quickly if you decide you want it.

A dinky little book came in this week that really tickled my fancy – IF I DIED, WOULD YOU MARRY AGAIN? Anna Tochter lists the perils of the “wrong” answer - could be a manual for many a “Preparedness for Marriage” course. Perhaps some of my husbands should have read it at some time – that is of course assuming they actually wanted to stay married to me! I keep chuckling – no wonder I'm husband free.
Happy Reading
