We are so happy to be welcoming an incredible new partner to Neighbourly - joining our long-term friends AMI, Resene and Ryman Healthcare.

Pet Direct are the new kids on the pet block and know the industry inside-out; they have over 350 dog years of animal experience within their team. Most importantly right now, they're still delivering all your essential items during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The Pet Direct team do things differently; firstly they ALL have pets of their own. They also personally hand-pick every product they stock; they have over 5,000 items that have been tried and tested (but mostly eaten). They ship daily, from their Auckland-based warehouse, straight to your doorstep (with free delivery over $29), and offer a best price guarantee.

Neighbours - our pets remain a constant source of love and comfort during unsettling times. So show them (and the team at Pet Direct) how special they are. To say thanks for the support (and for being a good neighbour during this tough time), they're offering you 10% off their already awesome prices. Just use the code NEIGHBOURLY10 at checkout.

Dear neighbours and NZ Gardener family,

Our April issue should be with our subscribers now and available in supermarkets and service stations (having been distributed prior to the lockdown restrictions). Whether or not it's on the stands yet is a bit patchy ... but then the incredibly brave and hard-working supermarket staff have quite a bit on their plate right now so I understand if there is a delay! Please, please, please everyone ... don't go out to buy it! Normally of course we love you buying NZ Gardener but right now it's far more important that you stay home and stay safe. (You can buy a copy with your online shopping though! That's safe and I think we are all in the market for something uplifting to read right now).

In this issue we offered to send out sweet pea seeds to any reader who sent us a SSAE. Just to reassure you, we will still send out sweet pea seeds to any reader who is keen to participate. We are just not quite sure when! Ignore the dates in the magazine of when you needed to send the envelope in by - that has been indefinitely extended. But we cannot wait to send you the seed and for those flowers to bloom as by then we will be well through this or even have it behind us. And keep letting us know what you are sowing and growing, send in pictures of your harvest, your flowers or what you are sharing.

We always love hearing from NZ Gardener readers but now when we are all staying apart that connection means more than you can imagine. Stay home, stay safe and stay in touch everyone. For the most updated gardening advice, subscribe to our digital e-zine Get Growing, which will be delivered to your inbox completely free.

IMPORTANT - WHEN OUT WALKING/EXERCISING:

John Gillon from John Gillon - Kaipatiki Local Board

There is a lot of confusion over where people can walk and exercise while we're at Alert Level 4, especially as the rules and advice are a little vague and seem to change daily. Some people wrongly think that it is OK to walk to their neighbours for a drink; others wrongly think that it is OK to practice basketball, tennis or soccer at the park...
So I've spoken to senior police about how the rules are being enforced on the North Shore, and reviewed the latest info on the NZ COVID-19 website.

Here are some guidelines to staying as safe as possible and out of trouble (updated 5 April):
* Stay in your local, immediate area. Try to stay within your suburb.
* Wear shoes at all times.
* DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING! When on your walk or at a park, don't touch letterboxes, bus shelters, playground equipment, exercise equipment, picnic tables, seats, signs, bollards, drinking fountains, little libraries, community pantries, dogs, cats, etc. Don't let your children pick up sticks, stones, etc. COVID-19 lives on surfaces and can be transmitted by touch.
* WALKING: You can walk, scooter or cycle to a local park, beach or bushwalk for walking/exercise only (NOT socialising, sunbathing, playing, frisbee, soccer, etc). Stay 2m from everyone at all times. Avoid parts of the park where you could get injured or lost.
* DRIVING: You may drive to a LOCAL park to walk/exercise, but keep as local as possible (within your suburb). No, you can't drive to Takapuna Beach!
* CYCLING: You may cycle further, but still keep as local as possible and stay 2m from everyone at all times. Remember that the purpose is for exercise, so avoid areas where you could get injured or lost.
* SPORTS: Keep out of all skateparks, basketball courts, netball courts, tennis courts, etc, as they are closed for your safety. No soccer, rugby, cricket, etc. Please read this advice from Sport NZ: www.sportnz.org.nz...
* DOGS: Dogs must be on leads everywhere and at all times, even in off-leash areas and dog exercise areas. Keep 2m from other dog owners. Don't touch any dogs. Please read this advice from Auckland Council: ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...
* SCHOOLS: Do not go into schools for any reason. All school grounds have been closed by the Ministry of Education.
* AQUATICS: No swimming, boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, surfing, etc. Message from the Harbour Master: "Basically, unless it is essential to be on the water, you shouldn’t be out there. If someone is in a kayak or dinghy etc and needed help they are tying up resources or putting those who come to help at risk. Same with surfing and stand up paddle boarding." Please read this article: www.nzherald.co.nz...
* Wash your hands with soap when you get home.

For the latest official advice, see: covid19.govt.nz...

NOTE: There is now an increased police presence 24/7 across the North Shore to help deal with COVID-19 matters and complaints. If you have any concerns about a gathering of people, you can contact Police via the website: 105.police.govt.nz

Here's a little bit of positive news: Before the lockdown, the Kaipatiki Local Board approved the concept plan for a new path in Onepoto Domain, away from the pond edge (see attached plan). The current path is often unusable due to flooding.
There will be a new connection to the picnic area and existing path/pond wall. The northern-most portion of the existing path will be replaced with plantings as this is the most flooded part.
The project is now going into the detailed design and consenting phases, before physical works begin (date to be confirmed).

While our doors are closed, you can still experience some of your favourite parts of Tāmaki Paenga Hira with us here online.

We've pulled together amazing stories, activities, videos and puzzles from our channels and archives into one Museum at Home hub, so you and your family can enjoy the Museum experience outside of our four walls.

Watch how volcanoes are made, make an exotic bird case come alive in a puzzle, read about when The Fiji Times was printed on Masi (bark-cloth) or see some never-before-seen photos of Sir Edmund Hillary and his expeditions.

We have included activities for kids, and for the young at heart, as well as long reads and videos for those who want to deep dive into life at the Museum. We'll be adding new things for you to read, watch and interact with regularly, so make sure to check back in.
