Our annual street appeal is happening from 16-22 March 2020. It is our biggest fundraiser of the year. It not only helps us to continue the work we do but also raises awareness of the supportive services we provide.

Street collecting is a wonderful and fun way for you to be a part of something bigger. Meet and greet people in your community and encourage them to donate to a great cause. By donating your time, you’re making a real difference in people’s lives. It’s up to you when you want to volunteer - the time commitment is flexible, depending on your availability.

We are currently looking for volunteers that are available on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March 2020. We are also looking for businesses and/or groups that may be able to take a site for a block of time.

Sign up today through the New Zealand Red Cross website by clicking the "Read More" button below this text and your local Red Cross Appeal Coordinator will be in touch.

Thank you for your support.

Make every step count with Red Cross Journey

Red Cross is encouraging Kiwis to take a walk in someone else’s shoes this winter to support people in need.

Red Cross Journey, a new fundraising event running this May, challenges people to follow the real-life journey of a volunteer responding to a disaster or a former refugee seeking safety.

Participants have a month to walk the distance of their chosen journey while raising funds to support people in need. Along the way, they’ll learn more about disaster response or refugee resettlement in New Zealand.

Funds raised will support the work Red Cross does to help people in need in Aotearoa and around the world.

Red Cross Journey – what you need to know:

• Red Cross Journey runs from 8 May to 8 June, but registrations are now open. Head to www.redcrossjourney.org.nz... to sign up or learn more.
• Choose your journey and get walking! Follow Red Cross volunteer Kath as she responds to a disaster or get a team together to follow the Tamim family’s journey to a safer life. You’ll be walking 240kms throughout the month.
• Use an app on your smartphone to measure the steps you’ve walked during the day and enter your total on your Red Cross Journey page. If you don’t have a smartphone, you can calculate the kilometres you’ve walked and enter this distance instead.
• Red Cross Journey is accessible to everyone. If you are less able to walk, you can do the journey in the usual way you get around (apart from driving).
• Red Cross works right across New Zealand – responding to disasters like the Kaikoura earthquake, supporting former refugees, delivering Meals on Wheels, teaching first aid to children and so much more! By raising money through Red Cross Journey, you’ll be helping Red Cross do good things in your community.

Take on Red Cross Journey and challenge yourself to walk in the shoes of a volunteer responding to a disaster or a former refugee family seeking safety. Follow their journey, hear their stories and make a difference for people in your community and around the world.

How does it work?

Red Cross Journey is all about walking in someone else’s shoes. Choose a journey to follow, clock 10,000 steps each day between 8 May and 8 June and get people to sponsor you.

Along the way, you’ll receive updates marking your milestones and sharing more about your chosen journey.
By taking part and fundraising, you’ll be helping Red Cross do good things across New Zealand and around the world.

Which journey will you take?

Choose to walk Disaster Welfare and Support Team volunteer Kath’s journey and cover 240km during the month – that’s about 10,000 steps a day – or get a team together and follow the Tamim family's route to a safer life, covering 1,000km.

Registrations are now open. Sign up and make every step count!
