Recycling continues to go to landfill until further notice, while the region’s sorting facility gets up and running in L2 – it has a slower operating capacity and must process a huge backlog due to COVID-19. So this means that Waikanae recycling centre is also still closed for now. This is temporary and the public will be notified when the situation changes. Thank you Kāpiti for being kind and patient during COVID-19.

It was great to see this afternoon’s announcement on what life will look like under reduced COVID-19 alert levels but Kāpiti, we’re still at Alert Level 4 and we can’t afford to take our foot off the pedal.

We are hearing daily from people in our community about the extraordinary sacrifices they are making, at significant personal expense, to stay at home and save lives. They’re doing for their loved ones, for their neighbours, for their friends and for you.

It’s hard now and it will get harder. But we must buckle down and see this through. Stay home to save lives. It remains the most effective way to break the chain of transmission.
